About Salina J Photography

Hi! My name is Salina, and I am a photographer working in the Minneapolis/St. Paul and southern Minnesota areas. I enjoy meeting new people, and luckily for me, my profession allows me to do that every week, whether I am photographing a newborn, baby, child, family or creating senior pictures. This blog showcases my recent photography, and will help you get to know me and my style of portraits a little better. I am based out of Northfield, but work on-location throughout the Twin Cities (and beyond) or in my studio in Burnsville. I work with my clients to choose the right locations, times and wardrobe pieces to ensure their portraits are beautiful and true reflections of who they are.

New Little Twins Fan on His Way – Minnesota Maternity Photographer

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

Aaron and Corinne are expecting a baby boy very soon! We did their maternity portraits in Lakeville last week shortly before the sun set – the beautiful light gave the happy couple a warm glow and a bit of sun flare. Corinne looks great (look at that perfect, round belly!) and is feeling well as the weeks wind down.

The baby’s room is set up in a sports theme and is incredibly cute, but I can’t share those photos yet because the baby’s name is up in letters on the wall and they are keeping the name a secret! Big sister Hailey was very excited to show me all the clothes she’d picked out for her new brother to wear home from the hospital. I love the anticipation of a new baby! Can’t wait to hear news of the arrival and to do the newborn session for the little guy.

Courtney – Northfield Child Photographer

Photography is the perfect profession for meeting and getting to know new people, and also for reconnecting with old friends. Courtney is the daughter of a girl I went to high school with (I have to still refer to us as girls, it doesn’t feel that long ago since we were IN high school!). Her mom and I hadn’t seen each other in years, but it was so fun to talk about the so-called old times.

Courtney is a sweet and smart little miracle of a girl. She and I talked about Harry Potter, as she was finishing up the last book and I’d begun reading the first book to my oldest, and she told me about what she liked best in school.

Never Too Early to Plan – Minnesota Fall Color Portraits

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

I know what you’re thinking – summer hasn’t even had a chance to begin and I’m asking you to consider dates for fall portraits? But we all know how swiftly summer will come and go, and before we can say “Labor Day,”  the air will turn crisp and the trees will display their glorious, rich colors. Autumn is prime time for families to schedule sessions with their favorite photographer, and dates go quickly. In the last couple of weeks I’ve begun booking for September and October, so if you are considering a fall session for yourself or your kids, give me a call or send me an e-mail so we can pick the perfect time.

As for the summer months, July has only a few open dates. I know high school seniors, especially, like getting portraits done in the summer, and it’s a great time of year for early evening sessions for anyone, when the sun is still out and it’s not too cold close to sunset.

In honor of our 50 and 60 degree weather this week, I leave you with a warm picture of two happy boys from last fall.

Sugar and Spice – Minneapolis Family Photographer

A fun benefit to being a photographer is when clients return year after year – comparing photographs is such a concrete way of seeing just how much children have changed. At their session last year, Claire was a little baby, not even able to sit yet, and this year she was toddling around and pointing at the camera. Big sister Anna was more confident this year, giving me beautiful smiles and poses.

Since I began photographing families and children I’ve always liked to include some real life outtakes at the end of my clients’ galleries if I capture some. It’s easy to think, when you look at a photographer’s website, that parents who book professional photographers have children who do nothing but sit still and look gorgeous. And while it’s wonderful to have a truly picture-perfect portrait of your kids, it’s also pretty hilarious to see your kids acting like, well, themselves.
