About Salina J Photography

Hi! My name is Salina, and I am a photographer working in the Minneapolis/St. Paul and southern Minnesota areas. I enjoy meeting new people, and luckily for me, my profession allows me to do that every week, whether I am photographing a newborn, baby, child, family or creating senior pictures. This blog showcases my recent photography, and will help you get to know me and my style of portraits a little better. I am based out of Northfield, but work on-location throughout the Twin Cities (and beyond) or in my studio in Burnsville. I work with my clients to choose the right locations, times and wardrobe pieces to ensure their portraits are beautiful and true reflections of who they are.

New, Bigger Studio in Burnsville! Twin Cities, MN Photographer

Monday, January 30th, 2012

Last year I opened a studio space in a great building in Burnsville (it’s just off of 35W/13/Nicollet, near Skateville and Grand Slam). At the end of 2011 two new spaces opened up in the same building, so the owners opened up a wall between them and made it into one huge, gorgeous studio, and I’m so excited to finally share the photos with you! The building has a parking lot, and an elevator in case you’re coming to the studio armed with many children or a stroller. The big skylights overlook 35W as it winds toward downtown Minneapolis, and the sun glinting off the skyscrapers as the sun goes down is a beautiful sight.

I still love to hold sessions on location (I am based in Northfield but travel all over the Twin Cities for sessions ), but having the space to use studio lighting, and a space for sessions during the cold winter months has been invaluable, and I’m so glad I’m able to offer this option to my clients.

This week I will be posting a special to celebrate the new studio, so check back!

Emily – Apple Valley Senior Portraits

Sunday, September 18th, 2011

Emily saved the day for me during the workshop I participated in back in July. Our scheduled model canceled and Emily was a backup – despite having been outside in the heat that morning (this was the weekend of record temperatures and humidity) she rose to the occasion and came by my studio in Burnsville to smile big for the camera as a photographer I greatly admire, David Hofmann, taught me how to better harness the gorgeous natural light coming into the space.

Thank you, Emily, best of luck during your senior year!

Keeler – Northfield, MN Photographer

Monday, August 22nd, 2011

In July I had the opportunity to participate in a mentorship with David Hofmann, a photographer working in Los Angeles.  He flew to Minnesota and we worked with many models in a weekend so that I could learn some new ways to use light, as well as learn how to use a particular photo editing software to its full potential.

Keeler was one of the models we had in the Burnsville studio. We used only natural light, which I think just highlighted Keeler’s natural beauty!

Love the one of her laughing, in particular, I’m always thrilled to capture such a real moment!

Claire – Minnesota Childrens Portrait Studio

Look at sweet little Claire! Love her expressions in these, like she’s just quietly regarding me and the camera. These were taken in my Burnsville studio, using natural light (a softer look than my studio lighting provides) with a gray background.  So happy to have had you in the studio, Claire!
