About Salina J Photography
Hi! My name is Salina, and I am a photographer working in the Minneapolis/St. Paul and southern Minnesota areas. I enjoy meeting new people, and luckily for me, my profession allows me to do that every week, whether I am photographing a newborn, baby, child, family or creating senior pictures. This blog showcases my recent photography, and will help you get to know me and my style of portraits a little better. I am based out of Northfield, but work on-location throughout the Twin Cities (and beyond) or in my studio in Burnsville. I work with my clients to choose the right locations, times and wardrobe pieces to ensure their portraits are beautiful and true reflections of who they are.
Lilly has worked as a model before (her face has been in Target ads!) so I knew she’d be full of natural smiles for me when she came to the studio. Love her spunky personality! That zebra outfit really brought out her wild side, she was dancing and posing for me like she’d been on the runway for years. Thanks, Lilly!
Nicholas and Erik have the distinction of being the first natural light session held in my new Burnsville studio. They gave me great smiles and eye contact, but toward the end the temptation to act like normal was just too great, and I captured some images of them that reflect what their parents probably see multiple times each day. Having three boys, I am quite familiar with one kid trying to bite the other, who just stands there with a, “What now?” expression. Love when I can share a bit of real life with my clients!
Okay, confession. I’ve never been to California, and I’ve never actually met anyone who surfs (surfing, if it exists in Minnesota somehow, is far off my radar), but when I met Jude in my Burnsville studio I immediately thought, “Here’s a kid who looks like he belongs on a surfboard on a beach somewhere.” He just has that cool, laid-back look. He was a very willing model as I photographed him using studio strobes (have I mentioned I love my studio?), and despite the fact that my favorite images of him ended up being serious or semi-serious, he really was a happy, smiley kid. In fact, in the black and white portrait, I had just asked him for a serious face, and it was a little too hard for him to contain his grin, which you see a hint of here.
Thanks to Jude and his mom for coming in to the studio for the modeling session, he did a wonderful job!
Addison was born on St. Patrick’s day, and I photographed her newborn portraits nine days later. She wanted her mama to snuggle her more than she wanted to be content for the camera, but toward the end of the session we managed to get some adorable, sleepy poses from her. Big sister Morgan and big brother Zachary joined in for a few photographs in the beginning, too – they are so loving toward their baby sister, it was sweet to watch them interact.
Meet sweet Addison! I am very excited about the canvas her parents ordered, especially – a beautiful 16×20 of the image of Addison in the headband. I will have to share it on my blog once it arrives to show off how amazing it is enlarged.
